En 1982, au cours d'un boeuf dans un Café de Melrose Avenue, Anthony, surnommé parfois à l'époque Antwan the Swan, rappe sur un de ses poèmes, "Out In L.A. ", qui deviendra la 1ère chanson des Red Hot Chili Peppers.Le groupe de Hillel, Flea et Jack perdure. Anthony commence à faire de sporadiques interventions dans les concerts d'Anthym. Il monte sur scène et récite ses délires poétiques. " Selon Cal Worthington, on était les meilleurs rockers de L.A. Les mecs nous appelaient " les malades ", les filles nous appelaient, tout court...! "
